ALBAWABA- One person was killed and four others were injured in a shooting Saturday evening at Charles Young Park in Lexington, Kentucky, during a community event.

Lexington police responded at about 6:48 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the 200 block of Midland Avenue, where the park was hosting the “East End Day” celebration. 

Officers found five shooting victims and transported them to a local hospital, where one was pronounced dead. The four injured included a 4-year-old child, a 14-year-old and two adults. Their injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening.

Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said there was no ongoing threat to the public. As of Sunday morning, authorities had released no information about a possible suspect, and no arrests had been announced.

Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton expressed condolences to the victims and their families, saying the community was praying for those injured and for the young man who lost his life. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, who was speaking at an event about 1.5 miles from the park when the shooting occurred, also acknowledged the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing. The identity of the deceased had not been released as of Sunday, pending confirmation by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office. Police have urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact investigators.
