Dr. Khamis bin Mubarak al Alawi, Omani Minister of Regional Municipalities, Environment and Water Resources, has issued a ministerial decision establishing a committee to assess the environmental effects of the cyclone, which struck the Dhofar Governorate recently.
The committee is expected to begin its work Wednesday to assess the damage caused to the echo-systems in the Governorate.
It is due to visit wildlife reserves such as the Jabal Samhan Sanctuary and a mangrove reserves along the Dhofar coast. In addition, the committee will inspect damaged floral and fauna in towns and villages of the Governorate, according to Oman News Agency.
The committee is expected to report on the current environmental situation in the Governorate and to help adopt measures to help solve the situation.
The committee will be headed by Najib bin Ali al Rowas, the Minister's Advisor for Environmental Affairs.
Appointed as members of the committee were Mohammed bin Khamis al Raisi, director-general of environment, Salim bin Faraj Abdoun, director-general of environment and water resources in the Dhofar Governorate and directors and experts responsible for environmental and water resources. (Albawaba.com)
