Oman’s Sixth Five-Year Health Plan (2001-2005) focuses on decentralization to ensure that each and every region in the country benefits equally from the facilities being expanded by the government in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), reported Gulf News.
The paper quoted Health Minister Ali bin Mohammed Moosa as saying the previous plans concentrated on the construction of hospitals, now numbering more than 60, and health centers. He added that it was time the emphasis was shifted to decentralization in order to achieve the best health standard in the region.
"Let each and every individual benefit from the government campaign of 'Health for All', which has earned Oman distinction from WHO, UNICEF and other international organizations," he stressed.
He said the new plan was spread over 14 programs, giving top priority to the community as a whole as well as certain specific health problems, which have cropped up because of a new lifestyle in the country as elsewhere in the region. "The new plans aim at achieving the best health standards, bringing down the mortality rate, prevention of diseases and ensuring immediate and better treatment in cases of accidents,” he added – Albawaba.com
