Oman Air has signed a sixty-million-dollar-deal to acquire five Boeing 737s (four 737-700s and one 737-800) with options for two additional 737-700s, reported the Gulf News daily Tuesday.
Three of the aircraft will be purchased for forty million dollars payable over twelve years, and the other two leased for 20 million dollars to be repaid in five years.
"We went for Boeing because of its extra range and speed, less fuel consumption and flexibility. We are committed to making Oman Air one of the most prestigious and customer-friendly airlines," general manager, Abdul Rehman Al Busaidi, was quoted by the daily as saying.
With the acquisition of the new aircraft, the paper said Oman Air will be able to increase its focus on the Gulf, subcontinent and East Africa.
Its present fleet consists of two Airbus A310s, two ATR 42s and one Boeing 737 which was initially leased in 1993 at the time of Oman Air's inception.
"The deal will enhance our network schedules and frequency as we are replacing three large jets with five more appropriately-sized aircraft."
A finance deal was being worked out with five international banks and finance companies with the help of the Exim Bank of the US, he said.
