Oman's minister of foreign affairs Yousef bin Alawi bin Abdullah said on Wednesday that the member states of the gulf cooperation council (GCC) have always supported the Palestinians in their quest to maintain their rights, liberate their territories and to establish an independent state.
Oman news agency quoted bin Alawi as saying, upon his departure to the Saudi Kingdom to chair his country's delegation at the extraordinary session of the GCC foreign ministers, that the GCC officials would review current international calls to resume talks between the Palestinian National Authority and Israel, KUNA said.
The GCC foreign ministers are due to discuss recent talks, held by Saudi crown prince Abdullah with United States President George W. Bush in the U.S. and issues which were discussed during the Arab tripartite summit, recently held in Sharm el-Sheikh.
With regards to the proposed international conference on peace in the Middle East, bin Alawi conveyed that this convention should be judged on the basis of its topics and objectives.
Furthermore, he indicated that Washington has apparently altered its position on the Mideast as a result of the talks which were held between the Saudi crown prince and President Bush, but that the Israeli government’s stance has remained far from conformity with the desire of the international community.
