ALBAWABA- On the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly, U.S. President Donald Trump convened a high-level multilateral summit with leaders from eight Arab and Muslim-majority states, joined by members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The talks, co-hosted with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, brought together King Abdullah II of Jordan, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan.
The meeting focused heavily on Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza, which leaders described as a “humanitarian catastrophe” marked by severe civilian losses and mass destruction.
They condemned forced displacement, stressed the right of displaced Palestinians to return, and warned of the conflict’s destabilizing impact on the wider region and Islamic world.
OIC leaders jointly called for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid as urgent steps toward ending the war.
They further emphasized the need for a long-term plan to stabilize the West Bank, safeguard Jerusalem’s holy sites, and support reforms within the Palestinian Authority.
The statement also laid out a vision for post-war Gaza reconstruction under Arab and OIC leadership, backed by international assistance and security guarantees.
Leaders urged Trump to play a decisive role in advancing peace, framing his leadership as vital to halting the bloodshed and reviving a credible political path forward.
By linking Gaza’s devastation to wider regional security, participants stressed that this summit must mark the start of a sustained process to prevent further escalation, rebuild Palestinian lives, and confront the consequences of Israel’s continued assaults.
