The West Nile virus will almost certainly strike Israel again this summer, warned an official at the health ministry on Tuesday, quoted by Haaretz newspaper.
“Three horses have already come down with the virus, and they are harbingers of what is to come,” health ministry director-general, Boaz Lev told the Knesset Science Committee.
417 Israelis caught the disease which claimed the lives of 35.
Some 80 percent of the victims had to be hospitalized.
Lev said that lack of funds has hindered research into the virus which is spread by mosquitoes and birds – Albawaba.com
