The European Union has no reason to change its policy towards Iran following the election of Mahmood Ahmadinejad as the new president, EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said Monday.

But he also expressed "doubts" about the way in which the elections were carried out in Iran, echoing comments by the EU's executive commission. "We don't have any reason to change at this point of time," said Solana. "At this point I am just in a waiting mood. I want to wait and see the actions," he added Monday, according to AFP.

Regarding the elections, Solana raised concerns, saying: "I have my doubts about some matters in which the elections were taking place. But in any case I want to wait and see the action."
