A meeting between Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf and Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee is unlikely to take place in New York next month as planned, officials said Thursday.
Foreign Office spokesman Riaz Mohammad Khan said the proposed meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly "does not seem on the cards".
He said the two leaders, who held landmark summit talks in India in July, would probably meet again some time before the end of the year.
Vajpayee has accepted Musharraf's invitation to visit Pakistan for more talks but no date has been set.
Despite goodwill expressed by both sides after the July summit in Agra, the leaders failed to agree on a joint statement.
Vajpayee has since launched personal attacks against Musharraf, blaming him for the impasse at Agra and saying he lacked diplomatic skill.
Musharraf has ignored the jibes and continued to call for dialogue between the nuclear neighbors to resolve their differences, especially their rival claims to the Himalayan state of Kashmir -- ISLAMABAD (AFP)
