Bahrain must develop its technology security infrastructure to compete in the e-commerce revolution, an official said, cited by the Gulf News on Saturday.

Head of the Central Statistics Organization Sheikh Mohammed bin Attiyattulla Al Khalifa said that “the country cannot afford to stand on the sidelines.

His remarks came during the opening ceremony of an e-security road show entitled Electronic Security in the E-Age.

It was the last in a series of presentations that were held in Oman, Qatar and Kuwait.

Bahrain is exceptionally keen to develop its hi-tech and subsequent e-commerce infrastructure, he added.

“Cyber crime is becoming more and more sophisticated and as these criminals do, so must we. We all need to come together in order to combat such dilemmas.”

The official added that new laws and policies must be made that protect computer software, networks and information.

“Only then will businesses gain trust in e-commerce,” he added – Albawaba.com
