Afghanistan's anti-Taliban opposition denied Saturday a report that one of its key military leaders, General Abdul Rashid Dostam, had been killed.
Mohammad Atta, a commander in the Northern Alliance opposition coalition, said the report by Qatar's Al Jazeera satellite television channel was baseless, according to AFP.
"I spoke to him just half an hour ago. He was absolutely okay," Atta said.
"He has not even sustained any minor injuries."
The correspondent of the Qatar-based Al Jazeera satellite news channel had said in Kabul Saturday that leader of the Afghan Uzbeks, Dustom, had been killed.
He quoted military sources in Taliban as saying that Dostam had been killed a few days ago in north of Mazar-e-Sharif.
Abu Dhabi satellite channel has reported that many of the opposition troops have been killed or injured in the Taliban counter-attack in that area, which has changed hands several times during years of fighting - Albawaba.com
