ALBAWABA - Sources told CNN that Nikki Haley will announce today that she is exiting the presidential race.
Haley had emerged as former President Donald Trump's solitary competitor in the Republican presidential primary campaign, and while he won 14 of the 15 GOP states on Super Tuesday, she prevented a complete sweep by winning Vermont. While on Super Tuesday, Haley earned only 43 Republican delegates, while Trump won 764.
Haley had little chance of keeping up with the former president as the race shifted from early-state contests in which retail politics take center stage to a national race with 56% of the party's delegates set to be awarded by March 12.
Nonetheless, during her campaign, Haley became the first Republican woman to win two primaries: Vermont and the District of Columbia. The victories prevented Trump from claiming that he had shut out Haley in every state, but they were insufficient to provide her with a significant delegate tally.
Haley entered the Republican presidential race in February of last year, becoming the first person after Trump to declare a 2024 candidacy.
She polled in the low single digits for much of the first six months of her campaign but gained momentum after the first GOP primary debate in August, where she called for a "consensus" on abortion and stood out for her foreign policy experience. She was well received in subsequent debates, which helped fuel interest from voters and donors, CNN reported.
