A majority of Palestinians hope the current round of fighting with Israel will lead to the demolition of Israel and three-fourths support the continuation of the confrontation, a new survey indicated.
The poll carried out by the Jerusalem Media and Communication Center, a Palestinian think tank, questioned 1,170 Palestinians and had a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
It indicated that 51.1 percent of those surveyed believed the Palestinian objective of the conflict was to "liberate all of historic Palestine," a reference to all the land between the Mediterranean and the Jordan River, including Israel, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. In December, 43.9 percent held that view, AP noted.
In the current study, released Tuesday, 42.8 percent of Palestinians said the aim of the uprising was to end the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, captured in 1967. In December, 48.1 percent supported that goal.
The survey showed a drop in people who supported the continuation of the fighting with Israel, from 83.9 percent in March to 78.9 percent. Support for suicide bombings also fell to 68.1 percent, from 74 percent in December 2001. (Albawaba.com)
