Ameur Baaziz's new book "If Sousse" was recently published. La Presse reported Tuesday that the book is a collection of events that marked the history of Sousse, which is also known as "the Pearl of Sahel". In his book, Baaziz gives a detailed description of the geography of Sousse and its history since the times of Phoenicians, Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, Ottomans and French until the independence of Tunisia. In "If Sousse", Baaziz says that the name of Sousse changed each time a new civilization came to the area, "Phoenicians called it Hadrim. Then it was the turn of the Romans who gave the city the Latin name Hadrumetum. Then it became Hunericopolis under the Vandals. Byzantins called it Justinianapolis. Finally at the time of Arab-Muslims it was named Sousse ".
