Some 50 "insurgents" were injured and at least one was killed during last week's attack on Abu Ghraib prison west of Baghdad, the U.S. military said Monday.
On Monday, a suicide bomber driving a tractor blew himself up in Abu Ghraib. Iraqi police official 1st Lt. Akram al-Zubaeyee said the explosion west of Baghdad was near the prison's gate, killing the attacker and injuring four civilians, The AP reported.
The U.S. military said Saturday's attack included one car bomb, gunfire, mortars and rocket propelled grenades. More than 40 U.S. service members and 13 prisoners were wounded.
An Internet statement posted late Sunday by al-Qaeda in Iraq, which has claimed responsibility for the attack, said 10 attackers were killed in the operation, including seven suicide car bombers. The statement said two others were injured.
The Internet statement said insurgents had done reconnaissance work and gathered intelligence information "from our sources among the enemy" before the attack.
In Baghdad, a woman and a child were killed late Sunday in a clash between gunmen and police in the al-Jihad neighborhood, police captain Talib Thamir said.
