The summit meeting of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) was opened on Tuesday in the Algerian capital under the co-chairmanship of Presidents Abdelaziz Bouteflika and Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria.

This meeting, which aims at drawing up a report of NEPAD, is taking place a month after the NEPAD multi-stakeholder dialogue meeting, held in Johannesburg (South Africa) on October 22-23.

Launched in 2001, NEPAD aims to lift the continent out of poverty by attracting investment to end dependence on aid, but the project's initiators have begun to show impatience at a lack of tangible results.
