ALBAWABA - Military-sanctioned political parties in Myanmar said that public elections will most likely be held in 2025, the first elections since the ousting of Aung San Suu Kyi in 2021.

"Elections are likely to be held in 2025," a senior member of the military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party told AFP. A member of another junta-approved party confirmed the news.

The US has said that any elections held by the military would be a "sham," and analysts believe they will be targeted by the dictatorship's opponents.

The military justified their February 2021 coup with false charges of extensive fraud in the 2020 elections, which Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy won.
