Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has denied rumors of an impending cabinet reshuffle, but has disclosed that he is considering eliminating the ministry of economy.
Mubarak told reporters aboard the presidential plane taking him on a brief visit to Kuwait that “The external trade ministry will take over the duties of the [eliminated] ministry of economy.”
According to Kuwait’s official news agency (KUNA), the press asked President Mubarak to carry out political and economic reforms against the backdrop of a recession that has hit the country recently.
Mubarak was quoted by the Middle East News Agency (MENA) as saying that among the new measures under consideration is fostering role of the central bank by placing it under the direct control of the cabinet, as well as support for domestic and overseas investments.
He also denied rumors of a cabinet reshuffle.
In Kuwait, Mubarak met with Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Saad Al Abdullah Al Sabah to discuss the current global situation and bilateral ties in all fields – Albawaba.com
