Austrian President Thomas Klestil and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak met Saturday at the Red Sea resort of Sharm El Sheikh to discuss the latest developments in the international and regional arenas.
The two leaders agreed on the need to rally the international community to eradicate terrorism, Austria's ambassador to Egypt said.
Local reports said Mubarak called for holding an emergency conference under the UN umbrella to solidify all international efforts to fight terrorism.
Ambassador Ferdinand Truttmansdorff was quoted by AFP as saying that Klestil committed Austria to "work, in cooperation with its Arab friends, to prevent any confrontation between Arab countries and the West."
Klestil is in Egypt for a 24-hour visit.
Truttmansdorff said Klestil's visit to the region aimed to help restart the Middle East peace process because, in the ambassador's words, "We consider that the resolution of the conflict is necessary to fight against terrorism."
According to the agency, Klestil will head early on Sunday to Jordan for talks with King Abdullah – Albawaba.com
