Egypt believes that Algeria and Morocco can agree on a joint vision to settle their dispute over the Sahara, Ousama El Baz, political advisor to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said, according to the Maghreb Arabe Presse Agency Monday.
El Baz told MAP, during an interview on the eve of Mubarak’s three day official visit to Morocco, which began Monday, that Cairo considers the Moroccan-Algerian dispute harmful to both countries, as each one of them needs to use their natural, human and economic potentials to achieve development and face challenges.
The Egyptian president has perfect knowledge of the region and was the first Arab head of state to conduct a mediation mission between the two neighboring countries back in the year 1975, El Baz stated.
For the Egyptian official, an amicable solution could be found, as it is not in the interest of either country to weaken the other or to divest its efforts from internal and external challenges, MAP added.
Egypt will not hesitate to contribute to reconciling the two neighboring nations, owing to its will to clear any misunderstanding or tension between Morocco and Algeria, El Baz conveyed.
In addition, he noted that talks between Moroccan King Mohammed VI and Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak, would be topped by Arab-Islamic issues.
Additionally, El Baz told the news agency that discussions would focus on the Palestinian issue, international efforts to resume the Middle East peace process and Arab and international endeavors to find a way out of the Iraqi crisis. (Albawaba.com)
