Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced initiatives to support disaster assistance and humanitarian relief efforts to the areas affected by the earthquakes in South Asia including Pakistan. Motorola is contributing $500,000 to the relief efforts, which includes financial support to UNICEF and emergency telecommunication equipment for the region. Motorola is mobilizing each of its businesses to provide mission critical communication equipment including two-way radios for first responders, replacement telecommunications supplies for cellular providers and additional mobile phones.

Ed Zander, Motorola's chairman and chief executive officer, said, "We are deeply saddened by the devastation caused by the earthquakes and we are committed to helping the relief efforts with financial support, time, and with our products and services. I am thankful that all of our employees in the region are accounted for and safe."

“Given the strong trading and humanitarian links between the Middle East and South Asia, we feel a significant affinity with the region and wanted to give quick and effective financial support and employee time, as well as our products and services, to assist those affected by the earthquake", said Hassan Tavakoli, Vice President, Motorola Middle East & Africa.
Over the last year, Motorola and its employees have contributed more than $8.0 million in financial support and in-kind donations to disaster relief efforts, including the Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina tragedies. Motorola employees have also given their time and unique expertise on the ground to help local officials with their mission critical communications needs.
