Motorola (NYSE:MOT) today announced the appointment of Jose R. Figueroa as its corporate vice president and regional manager of Motorola Networks for Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).

The company has also announced Margaret Rice-Jones as corporate vice president and general manager of its Core Networks business.  Core Networks, a newly-aligned business within Motorola Networks which covers communications technologies for both wireline and wireless operators, is key to Motorola’s Seamless Mobility vision and architecture. Both Rice-Jones and Figueroa have recently spent time in the Middle East and North Africa region to engage with customers and Motorola’s partners across the geography.

In his new role, Figueroa will be focused on driving sales and business strategies effectively across EMEA and LAC regions for the Networks business, in addition to maintaining his position as corporate vice president of Motorola Networks, Latin America and Caribbean region.  Following her appointment, Rice-Jones will be responsible for profit and loss performance of the business including the strategic planning, development engineering, handling third party relationships, product management and customer support.

“I am delighted to be taking on this expanded role – it makes perfect sense to centralize customer relationships and work more closely across the two regions on account strategy,” said Figueroa.  “It’s an exciting time in terms of market consolidation as well as convergence in the industry and today’s announcement will strengthen Motorola’s ability to greater support its customers and to deliver on the company vision of ‘seamless mobility.”

Figueroa has been corporate vice president, Motorola Inc. and regional manager of Motorola Networks for Latin America and Caribbean since February 2000.  In this role he was responsible for motivating the organization to identify industry opportunities and embrace market challenges. He was instrumental in securing the largest commercial contract of Motorola’s SoftSwitch solution globally, with VIVO in Brazil.  In addition, he presided over numerous new regional contracts across Latin America including Push-To-Talk as well as CDMA 1X wins.

Rice-Jones was previously corporate vice-president and regional manager of Motorola Networks in EMEA, where recent customer wins include a 3G win with STA in Andorra; Push-To-Talk over Cellular (PoC) deployments with ‘Mobily’ in Saudi Arabia and Turkcell in Turkey and GSM expansion contracts with, for example, MTS and KarTel in Russia and the CIS.
