ALBAWABA - Moscow accused the West of hastening to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia, one that would not allow it to recover for decades.

On Thursday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in a interview on state TV that military supplies provided by U.S. and European countries, for Ukraine, is nothing but a declaration of a fierce war against Moscow, describing the moves as a “geopolitical war” inflicted by the west.

Lavrov clarified the conflict in Ukraine is but a “special military operation”, noting western support for Kyiv is playing an important role in how Russia is dealing with matters at hand and added that the escalation of the crisis is thus eminent.

The Foreign Minister denied that Russia is refusing to negotiate over the crisis with Ukraine. Moreover, he said Russian diplomacy is actively working to improve its contacts and get to the bottom of the truth especially on the international arena.

In the midst of his speech, Lavrov touched on the visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to Kyiv, noting that the latter's statements revolved around on how to end the “Russian question”.

Lavrov stated Western pressure on Ukraine to stop negotiations with Russia makes it more difficult to reach a political solution as in the present case with Kyiv refusing to meaningful dialogue with Moscow.

The Russian Foreign Minister said his country has not yet seen any serious proposals to establish peace in Ukraine. Lavrov's statements coincide with the increase in military aid for Ukraine by Europe and the U.S. that include tanks, long-range missiles and radars.
