Morocco's King Mohammed VI visited on Tuesday the construction site of the Tangier-Mediterranean Port, located some 35 kilometers east of the city and 15 kilometers from Europe across the Gibraltar Strait.
The new port, part of the national port plan, will allow a better distribution of goods and passenger traffic and the development of fresh sources of income.
Aside from developing international road transport traffic, the new facility will reduce pressure on the city of Tangier and make it a pole of tourism and cultural attraction and transform the city's present port into one of the largest cruising platforms of the Mediterranean, according to MAP news agency.
The zone will be made up of a seaport, export free zones, tourism activity areas and connecting infrastructures such as roads, highways and railways, the agency concluded. (Albawaba.com)
