Moroccan minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mohamed Benaissa, is set to visit Brussels next Tuesday for talks with the European Union’s high representative for external relations, Javier Solana, over Morocco-EU relations, it was officially announced in Brussels.
Solana’s spokeswoman said the meeting, that was decided upon over two weeks ago, will also deal with the present crisis in relations between Morocco and Spain. She went on to say that Solana is ready to contribute to the normalization of relations between the two countries, although the crisis is considered “a bilateral problem” that ought to be settled through dialogue, according to Maghreb Presse Agency on Wednesday.
The European Union (EU) wants a rapid normalization of ties between Spain, a member-country, and Morocco, an important partner of the union, said the spokeswoman, according to MAP.
Benaissa and Solana are also expected to discuss issues related to the Moroccan legislative elections slated for this September 27 as well as regional issues, especially the Middle East.
The Moroccan Foreign Minister will also meet with his Belgian counterpart, Louis Michel, over the Moroccan legislative polls as well as international matters, MAP said. (Albawaba.com)
