The King of Morocco, Mohammed VI has granted pardon to 1,183 people who were sentenced in Moroccan courts to mark the occasion of the Islamic holiday of Eid El Fitr that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. The statement came from the Moroccan ministry of justice on Saturday.
Those to be released were involved in minor crimes. It is traditional in North African countries to pardon prisoners on religious festivals and special days.
