A total of 4,504,769 Israelis will be eligible to vote in the February 6 elections for the premiership, reported Haaretz newspaper.

It said that the figure comprised a rise of about five percent over the total number of eligible voters in the 1999 elections.

Resigned Prime Minister Ehud Barak and right-wing Likud party leader Ariel Sharon are the only candidates for the premiership.

Former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu withdrew from the candidacy last month after the Knesset refused to dissolve itself -- Albawaba.com
