GSM operator MobileCom announced during a press conference held at the company’s headquarters that it had reached its “one million customer milestone”.

The company said that the one millionth customer, whose name will be announced next Sunday, will be rewarded one million free on-net mobile minutes, JD10, 000 and a Nokia N70 handset.

MobileCom also said that in appreciation of reaching 1 million subscribers, all “pay monthly” subscribers will receive bonus points through their loyalty program and all “pay as you go” subscribers will benefit from a 20% bonus on scratch cards over 2 days.   More details will be released shortly on that promotion, according to the company.

The press conference was headed by Jordan Telecom Group Executive Vice President, Mickael Ghossein; MobileCom CEO, Majd Shweikeh; MobileCom Chief Marketing Officer,   Jean Michel Chanut; and MobileCom Consumer and Corporate Marketing Manager, Yanal Shwayyat.

Telecom Group Executive Vice President, Mickael Ghossein indicated that the integration of the operations of Jordan Telecom, MobileCom, Wanadoo and e-Dimension into a single organization with a single management structure, forming the Jordan Telecom Group, will introduce new benefits that bring greater value for the Group’s subscribers. These benefits will contain a mix of mobile, fixed line, internet and data services that are expected to exceed expectations and basic needs of subscribers.

“MobileCom’s many achievements are an excellent reflection of the Kingdom’s prosperous telecommunications sector as well as a true translation of King Abdullah II’s vision to transform Jordan into a regional and international IT and communications hub,” Jordan Telecom Group Executive Vice President, Mickael Ghossein said.

For her part, MobileCom CEO, Majd Shweikeh, commented on the milestone by saying, “With us reaching the one millionth customer-milestone in such a short time, we mark another day in MobileCom’s success story. This achievement can be attributed to MobileCom’s dynamic strategy, which focuses on providing the best communications solutions for the different segments of the Jordanian society, thus bolstering the strong ties with our subscribers”.

Earlier in April 2005, MobileCom hit the half a million customer-base, and by early  2006 the company launched a new series of numbers that started with 07-76 in order to absorb the increasing demand for MobileCom lines and the growing number of subscribers which had exceeded 770,000 at the time.

During the press conference, MobileCom revealed the new structure of the new pay monthly “Club” offer which gives subscribers more flexibility with a flat price per minute at all times and to all local networks. Moreover, Club will now provide lower prices with an average drop of 16% off the original tariff.

According to the presentation, Club Offer comes in 7 simple hour bundles to suite all requirements and spending habits. What distinguishes the Club Offer is the fact that the customer never loses any of the unused bundled or free minutes, which get carried over to the next month, as well as reduced rates for off-bundle calls.  In addition, subscribers of the Club Offer are automatically enrolled within the Residential Pay-Monthly Loyalty Program, and benefit from a number of services such as the free bill delivery and collection right at the door-step or through the MobileCom Bareed (e-mail) service. Furthermore, this straightforward offer provides attractive SMS and GPRS bundles.

The new Club Offer gives subscribers 3 free monthly fees or discounts on an attractive handset subsidy based on the bundle type chosen, subject to one year commitment. In addition, subscribers can now benefit from the new discounted tariffs for as low as 1 piaster per minute to call 3 numbers through the Friends and Family feature, including a preferred international destination to call any number within that country a 10% discount on the normal tariff, offering customers greater flexibility and reassurance about the costs being incurred when making calls, and making the Friends and Family feature a simple and suitable option which is easy and convenient to use.

Shweikeh, appointed in February 2006 as MobileCom’s CEO, said that the company worked hard to launch a collection of leading offers and services, particularly the revamp of all its pay as you go offers into two simple, comprehensive plans that provide subscribers with new tariffs for as low as one piaster per minute, extended validity period of up to one year, and many other features and benefits.  MobileCom’s focus also came to rest on subscribers within the business sector in developing a greater range of services. MobileCom also presented new incentives to its Military subscriber base with a comprehensive package that includes handsets at attractive prices and the addition of MobileCom’s renowned Family and Friends feature.

In addition, MobileCom went on to introduce a new international tariff structure as part of its complete review of the existing pricing structures for all its offers.

MobileCom’s new value added services include its Mobile Stock Exchange service,  and the Dananah service which allows subscribers to download on their mobile phones different tunes and songs which can be heard instead of the usual ringing tone, the Push email service which allows the corporate subscriber base instant access to their emails, in addition to many other innovative services.

The local community is another aspect which the company is always keen to support through a range of activities. Early this year, MobileCom together with Jordan Telecom renewed its cooperation agreement with Jordanian Basketball Federation, in sponsoring the professional’s league, the university league as well as the schools league.

The company is also the official sponsor of Jordan Youth Football Club, who won the league and the Cup for the 2005-2006 season.  In supporting the Kudorat program in its second year the company supported the enhancement of students’ achievement skills. In addition, MobileCom sponsors Operation Smile, a non-profit, volunteer medical services organization. In education, MobileCom sponsored the Intel ISEF initiative, which aims at encouraging scientific research in the Kingdom’s schools through the careful selection of talented students and their projects, leading to qualification to the International leg of Intel’s International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), which this year saw two Jordanian winners. MobileCom has also recently renewed its commitment to sponsoring the Jordanian Hashemite Fund's (JOHUD) good will and charity activities and programs (which include helping the poor, supporting small projects, schools and others all around the Kingdom) for the fifth year

Shweikeh concluded the press conference by thanking France Telecom, Jordan Telecom’s strategic partner, for their continuous support, in addition to giving a special thank you to all MobileCom employees as well as the company’s official dealers for their hard work and loyalty.
