Bahrain's economy has grown at a healthy annual average of 4.2 percent over the past five years, said Minister of Finance and National Economy, Abdullah Saif.

Government contribution to GDP has grown to 56 percent last year, he said.

But he noted that "there has been a decrease in investment, in general, particularly from the private sector, which has reached nine percent of GDP last year.”

He urged the private sector to be more proactive instead of taking cues from government initiatives.

The government also hopes to provide a boost to tourism with the establishment of a government-private sector tourism development company in the near future.

Meanwhile, he said creating job opportunities for Bahrainis remains a national priority and a special study is underway to prepare Bahrainis for employment in five key economic sectors, the Gulf Daily quoted him as saying - Albawaba.com
