Metito, the international water treatment, desalination and wastewater treatment expert, today announced a strategic alliance with Singapore Utilities International (SUI), the international, private sector arm of Singapore’s Public Utilities Board (PUB). This alliance brings international intelligence with local experience to the GCC and aims to supply clean water throughout the Middle East.
At a recent ceremony held in Singapore, Mr Ong Ho Sim, Managing Director of SUI and Mr Mutaz Ghandour, CEO of the Metito Group, entered into an alliance to jointly develop the Middle East market, with SUI expertise complimenting Metito’s local knowledge and capabilities.

Singapore Utilities International (SUI), has been involved in water concessions in Brunei, Indonesia and China, and has been looking into expanding to the Middle East. Metito is the market leader offering design, manufacturing, installation and operation of water and waste water treatment plants in the Middle East to the private sector (The 2005 Frost & Sullivan Market Penetration Leadership Award winner in May 2005). Metito’s local experience will complement SUI’s leading technologies to offer a winning solution for both the governments and users in the Middle East.
Metito has completed an advisory project in the United Arab Emirates and, with this new alliance underway, sees huge opportunities for itself and its new partner in markets such as Qatar, Oman and Saudi Arabia.
Singapore has one of the most efficient water utilities in the world run by the Public Utilities Board (PUB). The PUB manages four different sources of water: catchments of rain the island receives, water bought in by pipeline from neighbouring Malaysia, a large new desalination plant and the world’s most advanced water recycling system. Even with this highly complicated set up, the PUB has managed to achieve the lowest leakage rate of any major city. Outside of Singapore, the PUB’s private sector arm, Singapore Utilities International (SUI), has been involved in water concessions in Brunei, Indonesia and China.
The PUB has been internationally commended for its NeWater project, where sewage goes through extensive multiple treatment to produce very high quality drinking water, which is pumped to catchments to supplement the country’s water supply. Metito has been a long time campaigner for the reuse of water, presently in the Middle East region for irrigation and industrial uses, and looks forward to tapping into Singapore’s success to bring clean drinking water in abundance to the Middle East world.
