The prime suspect in the recent Egypt's Sharm al-Shaikh resort attacks was shot dead, a police official said Monday.

Mohammed Saleh Flayfel, already wanted for his alleged role in October 2004's bomb attacks at the Taba resorts in the Sinai peninsula, died in the shootout in Ataqaa mountains, near Suez, said the police official on Monday, according to The AP.

Flayfil's wife was injured in the shooting.

Flayfil was tried in absentia for the Taba bombings that killed 34 people, many of them Israelis.

Flayfil is a brother Suleiman Flayfil, one of the Taba attackers, who reportedly died in one of the blasts.
