ALBAWABA - A fire that spread to the entire 14-story skyscraper in Valencia, Spain, destroyed it. Four persons lost their life in a frenzied scenario that happened on the balconies.
Yesterday evening at approximately 6:30 PM local time, a 14-story structure in a complex spanning several blocks in Valencia, Spain, caught fire. In ten minutes, flames shot through the building, occasionally accompanied by explosions. The 130 apartments in the structure were occupied by trapped residents.
The size of the fire exceeded Valencia's officials, so they requested aid from neighboring cities' military and firefighting emergency units. Immediately, a field hospital was established nearby, and multiple ambulances were sent out. Winds gusting up to sixty kilometers per hour made the fire worse and made it more difficult for the firemen to put out the flames.
People hurried to the balconies in a desperate attempt to flee, but they became stuck there and tragically lost several lives. A few made an effort to flee the flames by moving from balcony to balcony.
The difficult duty of fighting the fire and rescuing people trapped fell to the firefighters. Three firefighters were hurt during the operation, and many residents were hurt as well. The firefighters finally put out the fire after a protracted struggle.
Pedro Sanchez, the prime minister of Spain, voiced his shock at the state of affairs, calling it "terrible." According to Spanish media, there were issues with the building's external covering, which facilitated the flames' quick spread. An inquiry has been opened regarding the fire.
