Mashreqbank and Emirates Nationals Development Programme (ENDP) have partnered to undertake a massive recruitment drive to employ up to 80 young Emiratis in the bank following three months of intensive training.
During the first two months ENDP will provide courses in English, computer literac and other vocational topics while the trainees will also be paid a salary by Mashreqbank. Once they join the bank full time there will be further one month of induction and on the job training.
Addressing a press conference at Mashreqbank’s head office, HE Ahmed Humaid Al Tayer, chairman of the Board of Trustees of ENDP, said that this was the first of initiative by ENDP specifically designed for the banking sector.
He said, “ENDP partners with the private sector to encourage the recruitment of skilled UAE nationals through its training programmes, and although emiratization in the banking sector is one of the highest in the private sector, we hope to see more UAE nationals equipped with the best knowledge and skills at front desks and back offices of UAE’s top banks.”
Abdulaziz Al Ghurair, CEO of Mashreqbank, said the agreement with ENDP would give a boost to the bank’s other ongoing Emiratisation programmes. “We are committed to providing young Nationals with the training and skills to enjoy fulfilling careers in banking,” Al Ghurair said.
Approximately 60 of the trainees are expected to be high school graduates and 20 will be college graduates.
Yesterday (17/06/06) the ENDP launched a major drive for Emirati job seekers to register for employment at kiosks situated in five major shopping malls as well as via their endp.ae website.
The ENDP was established by The Executive Office for the express purpose of working alongside the private sector in creating employment opportunities for Nationals.
“Our youth represent the future prosperity of the nation and the authorities are determined that they will have every opportunity to find worthwhile employment. We would like to thank Mashreqbank for being the first private sector employer to join us in launching such a recruitment initiative,” Al Tayer added.
Al Ghurair said that over the past decade there has been a distinct shift in the attitude of young Emiratis towards working in the private sector. “Today’s young Nationals are increasingly seeing employment in the private sector as an opportunity to develop their skills and pursue rewarding careers. For people with talent, it is far easier to gain promotions in the private sector than in government,” Al Ghurair observed.
