Egyptian Foreign Minister, Ahmad Maher on Thursday, asserted that the question of establishing an independent Palestinian state had not been discussed during President Hosni Mubarak’s recent visit to the United States.

Maher, in a statement issued following a meeting with the visiting Omani Minister of state for foreign affairs, Yousef bin Alawi, reiterated the necessity of establishing a Palestinian state with full sovereignty on all Palestinian territories, occupied in 1967, including east Jerusalem, according to the Kuwait news agency.

Mubarak, in the course of his recent visit, proposed holding serious negotiations, based on the commonly-known references, namely, “resolutions of the security council, the land-for-peace theme, the Arab initiative and accords that had been hammered out between the Palestinians and Israelis”.

These references oblige the Jewish state to give up Arab territories, namely the lands which were occupied by the Israeli army in the war of 1967.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister re-emphasized that Cairo was particularly concerned with regards to the issue of establishing an independent Palestinian state in prospected political negotiations, adding that Cairo and Muscat were, “in consensus” on, “pursuing common Arab efforts to attain the Palestinians’ rights”, KUNA concluded.
