Unknown assailants kidnapped Lithuania's general consul in Lebanon on Sunday and demanded a ransom for his release, security officials said.
They said the car of Raymond Sarkis, a wealthy Lebanese acting as honorary consul for Lithuania, was found abandoned near the village of Zikrit in the Metn mountains near Beirut, reported the Daily Star newspaper.
The kidnappers contacted Sarkis' family, the officials said, without giving further details.
Kidnapping was common during Lebanon's 15-year civil war, but has been rare since the fighting ended in 1990 – Albawaba.com
