ALBAWABA - Iran continues to experience massive protests that erupted ten days ago. The demonstrations started against the economic situation and the collapse of the Iranian Rial, then developed to include anti-Islamic regime slogans.
Iran's old flag, the "Lion and Sun flag", which was the country's official flag before the fall of the Shah and the control of the Islamic regime, was present during the protests, which were met with violence from the police to suppress the demonstrators.
In addition, videos were shared on social media showing protesters in Lamerd, Fars Province, shouting the slogan "Death to the dictator" during their protest rally on Friday evening, January 9. While another person was spotted writing "Javid Shah" in Chalus city.
X changes Iran's flag:
American billionaire Elon Musk's X platform has changed the emoji of the official Iranian flag to its pre-1979 version featuring the Lion and Sun emblem.
The update replaces the red symbol added to the flag after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, replacing it with the lion and sun emblem that has appeared on Iranian flags for centuries, dating back to the Shah's reign.
This change applies across the entire platform, meaning that even accounts belonging to Iranian officials and state-affiliated media outlets, including the Tasnim News Agency, now display the previous symbol of the revolution.

X changed the Iranian flag's shape in the account of Tasnim, Iran's semi-official news agency.
Nikita Beer, head of product at X, announced Thursday evening that he was working on implementing this change in response to a user request.
By yesterday evening, the update appeared to be in effect, as the old version of the flag appeared on official Iranian accounts, including that of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
