Libya’s Foreign Ministry has rejected allegations by the US State Department that Libya sponsors terrorism, saying the US makes such charges for its own purposes, the Associated Press (AP) reported, quoting the Libyan news agency JANA.
According to AP, the State Department listed Libya on Monday as one of seven national "sponsors of terrorism." The other countries were Cuba, Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Sudan and Syria.
An unidentified Libyan Foreign Ministry official dismissed the charge, saying Libya's stand on terror was "principled and clear," JANA said in a report received in Cairo.
Libya itself has been subject to "numerous attempted aggressions and assassinations at the hands of the United States and its overt and covert services," the ministry official added.
