Lebanese Foreign Minister Mahmoud Hammoud on Thursday described as "logical and acceptable" the report submitted by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1559. "We shall discuss the report some more with Annan in New York," Hammoud commented. He added that he would confer with Annan's Middle East envoy, Terje Roed-Larsen on the same issue.
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Miqati is due to fly to New York Friday along with an official delegation, including Hammoud. The goal of the visit is to meet Annan and discuss with him the issue of the 1559 Resolution, Kuna reported.
The Security Council late Wednesday issued a presidential statement "acknowledging" Syria's withdrawal form Lebanon after the deadlock experienced earlier in the day was solved.
