Lebanese President Emile Lahoud on Tuesday said Arabs no longer have trust in the U.S. as an "honest patron" of the Middle East peace process and urged Washington to reconsider its decisions regarding Syria.
In an interview with the Syrian al-Thawra newspaper, Lahoud added that he has demanded and is still calling for a more active European role in the peace process.
He warned against the Zionist lobby effect on the U.S. administration, which would soon discover that it was wrong in its calculations.
"The U.S. administration must reconsider its decisions due to Syria’s role at the regional ...and because stability in the region can not be at Syria’s expense, particularly [since] they have more than one time admitted Syria’s remarkable role to combat terrorism," Lahoud said.
The Lebanese president stressed the importance of the joint Arab action through the following up and implementation depicting the Syrian-Lebanese relations as "historical" and "distinguished" as well as "permanent" and pointed out that contacts have never stopped between President Assad and himself.
