A car bomb killed two Iraqi civilians in the northern city of Kirkuk. The car bomb, which went off as a senior local official drove by in the heart of Kirkuk, also injured three of his security guards on Sunday.
In another attack in Kirkuk, a police colonel survived a drive-by shooting while one of his assailants was wounded in an exchange of gunfire and captured.
Elsewhere, gunmen shot dead on Sunday an Iraqi interior ministry official while a mortar round hit Baghdad's "Green Zone" injuring a policeman, an interior ministry official said. The official died on his way to work in the west of Baghdad.
Meanwhile, armed men in Iraq released a video of a Jordanian hostage on Saturday, giving Jordan three days to cut ties with the Iraqi government and free a female would-be suicide bomber involved in November attacks on Amman hotels. The Jordanian government rejected the demand.
The video showed Mahmoud Suleiman Saidat, a driver for the Jordanian Embassy in Baghdad who was abducted by gunmen Tuesday.
"I ask the Jordanian government to close its diplomatic mission in Iraq and not to deal with this illegitimate government (in Baghdad)," Saidat said in the video. He also called for Jordan to release Sajida al-Rishawi, a would-be suicide bomber whose explosives belt failed to go off in Nov. 9 attacks on Amman hotels that killed 60 people.
