A gas blast Sunday in an Algeriann apartment building killed 17 people and left some 30 wounded, police said. The explosion, caused by a gas leak in the building's ground floor, reported at about 8:30 a.m. (0730 GMT) in the town of Ain Defla in the Guelma region, 450 kilometers east of the Algerian capital.
The national police said in a statement that some 30 people were being treated for wounds.
