The anti-smoking veteran, Allen Carr, who has contributed in helping millions of smokers quit, has been diagnosed with lung cancer.
Allen, who is now 73, used to smoke 100 cigarettes a day but quit almost 23 years ago and has since established himself as the world’s best authority on how to quit smoking. Allen greatest success story came through his renowned book ‘Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Stop Smoking’ which became a box office hit and has been published in 20 different languages for over 20 years.
Allen has also been responsible for setting up around 70 clinics in more than 30 different countries across the world to assist smokers in giving up the habit and along his travels has assisted the likes of Sir Richard Branson and Sir Anthony Hopkins.
Mr. Rany Victor, spokesperson of Nicotinell in the UAE commented “this is a deep shock.” It may be possible the lung cancer was developed as a result of breathing in secondary smoke from the people around him while advising and talking to them on how to quit smoking”.
The dangers of passive smoking have been highlighted over the last decade with several new studies confirming the consequences of being in a room whilst there is smoke inside. Numerous non smokers have lungs just as intoxicated with carbon monoxide as their smoking counter parts and children are particularly susceptible to suffering.
Mr. Rany said “we at Nicotinell are currently working on campaigns to aid people in giving up their habit and of ensuring the public are aware that if they sit in smoke filled areas then they too are causing their bodies damage. We are working closely with the Ministry of Health to protect non smokers in the United Arab Emirates as well as to find more creative methods to reach out to the smokers to have a greater impact in getting them to quit.
