A Kuwaiti lawmaker blasted the Iraqi regime and said it caused the suffering of its people. Head of the Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation to the Inter-parliamentarian Union IPU conference in Amman Jassem Khurafi told a press conference in Amman Wednesday that Kuwait supported the removal of sanctions imposed on Iraq but stressed that as long as the Iraqi regime continued there is no way to restore Iraqi-Kuwaiti relations.

Khurafi said the IPU conference provided the Kuwaiti delegation the opportunity to raise the issue of Kuwaiti prisoners of war in Iraq noting that 'files of 605 Kuwaiti prisoners are listed with the ICRC"

The Kuwaiti lawmaker said he hoped that Jordan would assist Kuwait to secure the release of the prisoners. He noted that Jordanian- Kuwaiti relations are making good progress after years of strain following the gulf war.

Asked about Kuwait's refusal to attend an Arab summit because of Iraq's presence, Khurafi said that his country never refused to hold or to attend any Arab summit.

"We attended several Arab meetings, where Iraqi's were present, and such allegations are false," he stressed, adding, "Kuwait believes that all Arab countries should be united, and they should solve all their problems. Arab solidarity is a must." - Albawaba.com
