Portugal's security forces have nabbed Palestinian deportee Anan Khamis, aged 24, held him under house arrest and prevented him from contacting his relatives abroad, the Kuwaiti Al-Qabas daily reported Tuesday.

The newspaper said that Khamis is one of some 13 Palestinians, who left Palestine back in 2002 for a number of European countries under an international treaty signed by Israel, the Palestinian Authority, and the European Union (EU).

It added that Khamis had disappeared since last Thursday after being summoned by the Portuguese intelligence apparatus in Lisbon.

The daily quoted one of Khamis' friends as saying that Khamis told him, via his mobile phone, that he was being held at the Portuguese intelligence headquarters.

It added that the Palestinian ambassador to Portugal Essam Bsseiso denied knowledge of Khamis' arrest and pledged to exert efforts with the Portuguese authorities so as to establish the reasons for his apprehension. (Albawaba.com)
