Kuwait has agreed to allow family members of Iraqi prisoners to visit them at Kuwait central prison, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).

Kuwaiti Al-Siyassah newspaper quoted national assembly (parliament) member Ahmad al-Rub'i as telling a gathering of friends Wednesday night that Kuwait has responded positively to a relevant request forwarded by the international Red Cross committee.

The Iraqi families are expected to travel over land to Kuwait to see their relatives, who are held on civil and criminal offences in Kuwait, he added, noting that such a move mirror Kuwait’s respect for human rights.

All of the 40 Iraqi prisoners were serving their sentences as indicted criminals, he added.

Kuwait demands that Iraq release more than 600 prisoners of war held by Baghdad, but Iraq has so far denied it has any Kuwaiti POWs – Albawaba.com
