Khatami Calls for Cessation of US Strikes on Afghans

The Iranian President Mohammad Khatami has underlined the need for putting an end to the ongoing US attack on Afghanistan and uprooting terrorism in the world under the aegis of the United Nations and through international consensus. 

According to Iran’s official news agency (IRNA), Khatami made the remark at a meeting with president of the Geneva-based International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Jakob Kellenberger on Sunday. 

He referred to the ICRC members as "messengers of friendship and tranquillity" in the present world, which is “full of discrimination, conflict and terror.” 

He hoped that the current visit to the region of Kellenberger would bring blessing for the regional nations and support the Afghan who were made to pay for no reason under the cover of anti-terror campaign. 

Meanwhile, the government of Iran sent on Monday a humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, where the people live under close supervision of the United Nations.  

The consignment, consisted of some 11 truck loads of foodstuffs, medicine and blankets weighing 100 tons destined for Afghanistan's northwestern city of Herat, the Head of the RCS in Khorasan Province, Yunes Anni said.  

Anni was cited by Tehran Times as saying that the consignment was packed and loaded under the direct supervision of representatives from the United Nations' High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) who accompanied the consignment to Iran's eastern border city of Dougharoun.  

He said he and some 20 Iranian aid workers would accompany the consignment to Herat, to distribute the relief package – Albawaba.com
