Julian Assange lands in Australia after 14 years

ALBAWABA - After 14 years of unlawful detention and five years in prison, Australian editor Julian Assange has finally landed in Australia, according to his media company WikiLeaks through X (formerly known as Twitter). 

The other day, WikiLeaks took to its official X account and revealed that "JULIAN ASSANGE IS FREE," triggering a swarm of comments and posts from users and activists alike. 

WikiLeaks released a statement, adding that Assange had left the United Kingdom after he was "granted bail by the High Court in London and was released at Stansted Airport during the afternoon, where he boarded a plane and departed the country".

WikiLeaks said in the caption: 

"Touchdown! After enduring nearly 14 years of arbitrary detention in the UK, and 5 years in maximum security prison, for his groundbreaking publishing work with WikiLeaks, Julian Assange has arrived home on Australian soil. Free at last. #FreedomFlight"
