Jordan Investment Trust PLC (Jordinvest) recently acquired 20% of the Educational Capital Company (EdCap); a company based in Al Manama, Bahrain, with a  paid-up capital of US$ 100 million. Jordinvest's US$ 20 million investment, the company's first in the region’s educational sector, places Jordinvest as a founder, major shareholder, and board member of EdCap.

Stemming from its belief in the wholesome value of the investments made in education, Jordinvest also recently acquired 20% of Addax Educational Holding (AEH), a firm launched by Addax Investment Bank and a team of specialists working in the educational field, which specializes in areas pertaining to investment in education both in the GCC and the entire Middle East region.

The arrangement made between Jordinvest and AEH came as a direct result of the contract that was recently signed between Jordinvest and Addax Investment Bank, the founding and establishing party of Addax Education Holding (AEH). This contract falls directly in line with the aims of Jordinvest's strategy to expand the scope of the company’s investments regionally and in a variety of sectors.

On another level, this new partnership serves to enhance Jordinvest’s already powerful investment portfolio in the GCC.

AEH on its part will work to invest and manage education and education-related businesses across the GCC, Levant and North Africa regions. Its main line of work is focused on developing new schools in areas within the Middle East, North Africa, South Africa, South Europe and Asia regions. Up to this point, education was previously an untapped territory for Jordinvest, and this is precisely why this arrangement brings with it a unique, wholesome and unprecedented investment opportunity for AEH’s newest partner from Jordan.

Commenting on this arrangement and the resulting promising investment opportunity, Mr. Ahmad Tantash, Chairman/CEO of Jordinvest, said, “It is no secret to anyone that the educational sector does in fact move communities towards achieving higher levels of social development. Moreover, we at Jordinvest recognize that education works as a catalyst for developing economies further on the long haul. Our recent investment in education comes as a direct result of our strong belief in the powerful attributes this sector holds for the communities in which we operate”

Based on reports released by Addax Investment Bank, the overall value of investments made in the MENA region education sector surpasses the US$ 21 billion mark. Jordinvest’s latest investment in education presents itself as a qualitative and quantitative addition to this already impressive number, for through its new investment Jordinvest plans to become an active promoter of education, and an active player in this sector’s journey towards further development.
