Jordan's King Abdullah invites Olmert for talks

Jordan's King Abdullah II is due to meet Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in Jordan in mid-June, a court official said.  "King Abdullah II has invited Mr Olmert to visit Jordan and the Israeli prime minister will come in around two weeks," the official told AFP. "The meeting will center on means of reactivating the negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis."

 

Meanwhile, during a brief visit to the United States, the King met with U.S. President George W. Bush in Washington on Monday evening to discuss bilateral ties as well as latest developments in the Middle East.

 

Regarding the Israeli -Palestinian proble, according to Petra, King Abdullah underlined the importance of moving forward in the pursuit of a two-state solution as outlined in President Bush's vision for peace.

 

He also stressed the need for both Israelis and Palestinians to resume negotiations as soon as possible and reiterated the need to channel assistance to the Palestinian people in order to avert a humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian territories.
