The Jordanian government has closed a weekly newspaper and detained three of its journalists for writing an article about the sex life of the Prophet Muhammad, AP said Friday.
The newspaper Al-Hilal, or the Crescent, published an article Tuesday that focused on the sex life of Mohammad and his favorite wife, Aisha.
The paper's editor-in-chief, Nasser Qamash, a senior assistant editor, Roman Haddad, and the writer of the article, Muhanad Mbaidhin, were arrested late Thursday for 15 days on orders of the military prosecutor, the official Petra news agency reported on Thursday night. It added Al-Hilal had been closed.
The paper's chairman, Ahmad Salameh, was also detained but was soon released on the personal guarrantee of the head of the Jordan Press Association.
The prosecutor charged the chairman and three journalists with "harming the dignity of Prophet Mohammad's wife Aisha" through the article titled "Aisha in the Prophet's home - God protected her from the fall of flies on her body."
The prosecutor also charged the four with harming the government and the dignity of people, and destabilizing society by publishing perversity and false news. (Albawaba.com)
